Wappingers Crew Club

About WCC

The Wappingers Crew Club has been rowing since 2004.  We are an approved,  parent run and partially funded club, operating within the Wappingers Central School District for the benefit of Wappingers Central School Students. Our club consists of dedicated athletes from John Jay and Roy C. Ketcham High Schools as well as Van Wyck and Wappingers Junior High Schools.

Spring is our main racing season.  Crew is a demanding endurance sport. We start physical training in February.  When the ice melts we row out of the Hudson River Rowing Association Boathouse in Poughkeepsie.  Starting in April, we race other high school teams almost every weekend until the start of June.  The majority of our races take place under the jurisdiction of the Hudson Valley Rowing League. Some of the races are overnight road trips including the State Championships in Saratoga, NY as well as the Syracuse Invitational.  The team rows 8-oared boats and 4-oared boats for girls and boys. There are also lightweight and heavyweight categories.  Novices (first year rowers) race against other novice crews.

New rowers typically start by enrolling in our Fall Learn to Row program. Even if you cannot participate in our Fall program, you can  still join us for our Spring season.

The best rowers have a strong work ethic, are willing to train hard and work well in a group.

We thank you for your support of the Kerri Roger 8 boat fund, and the Wappingers Crew Club! We dedicated a boat in Kerri's name on 4/12/2025. Thank you to everyone who donated, spread the word and attended the ceremony!

Read about it in the Poughkeepsie Journal, linked here!
Read about it in the John Jay HS Patriot Post, linked here!

This year we pioneered our own Fundraiser where 100% of the profits made will be utilized towards an 8-person rowing shell in honor of a beloved coach, educator, and friend,
Kerri Roger.

Last year, Kerri became a guiding light as she passed from this world. Kerri was a student of John Jay Senior High School, Class of 1997. Following college, she came back to John Jay and taught math for more than 20 years! Kerri had a huge impact not only as an educator, but also as one of the founding coaches of the Wappingers Crew Club. She was instrumental in bringing the sport of rowing to the Wappingers Central School District as well as our first State Championship Medals.
